Legislators Attend Panel Discussion at Education Foundation Luncheon
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Nearly 300 people gathered Wednesday at the Omni Bayfront to hear a spirited discussion about the 83rd session of the Texas legislature, which came to an end in May.
It was an annual fundraiser for the Tuloso-Midway Education Foundation. State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa and State Rep. Todd Hunter agreed to discuss in a very formal way all that happened and didn't happen in Austin this time around. They even invited Kiii News Anchor Joe Gazin to moderate the discussion.
One thing both of them agreed on is that the education interests received a boost in Austin.
"I think South Texas did well," Hunter said. "It was a great bipartisan effort from the Senate and the House."
"We were able to restore $3.9 billion from last session, when we were facing a $15 billion deficit," Hinojosa said.
State Rep. Abel Herrero was also scheduled to be on Wednesday's discussion panel, but he sent word that he had a conflict and couldn't make it.
