(KCEN) – On Saturday volunteers went to work washing cars and motorcycles in Killeen to help wounded warriors and their families. At the end of the day, they're hoping to raise around $5,000.
Staff Sergeant Joseph Kolar organized the event, wanting to give back to his community and fellow soldiers. With the help of the Killeen VFW on Wolf Street, Joseph was able to raise at least $1,000 shortly after noon.
"It's been great, and really rewarding," Joseph said. "It's humbling. I'm just glad I can do something to help out and give back to my brother and sisters."
Joseph says 70% of the proceeds from Saturday's event will go to the Wounded Warrior Project to help those service men and women who were injured while serving our country. He plans on having many more fundraisers in the future.
