In Jim Hogg County, deputies and police continue to struggle shutting down illegal eight-liner gamerooms in Hebbronville.
3 News visited the Flamingo Gameroom, the site of roughly 100 machines, to see if they were operating within the law. Management promptly asked us to leave. In Texas, it is illegal to offer cash payouts. 3 News spoke with a couple of area residents who say Saturday night is the busiest time of the week.
"One friend of mine, she won $1,600," said Omega Rocha, Hebbronville resident. "They go pretty often and it's not all the time that they get about $1,000, up to $1,000, sometimes like about a $100."
Officials with the Jim Hogg County Sheriff's Department say budget constraints and a lack of witnesses keep them from proving illegal activity is taking place inside gamerooms.
