Local Daycare Facility Closed for the Day Due to Broken Water Meter
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
It seemed suspicious at first, but after closer examination, a water meter break turned out to be just an inconvenience for a local daycare center on Tuesday.
"I got a call from the daycare saying they had no running water and had to come pick up my son early, and leave work about an hour and a half early," said Robert Velasquez, who was among the many parents who had to cut their workday short to pick up their children from the Kinder Town daycare facility on Staples Street, near Lipes.
No running water meant that kids could not be cared for, so daycare managers had to close for the day.
"Noticed that the water meter had been tampered with," said Jennifer Medina of Kinder Town. "Water had been turned off. There's a huge, heavy steel casing over it, so who took it off, what happened, we don't know."
"We usually have it at residences at people's houses," said Gilbert Castillo of the City's Water Department. "They'll go turn it off at the riser, just to mess with them; but this took some actual time to dig it all up and turn it off."
The daycare is expected to be up and running by Wednesday once repairs are made to the broken water meter.
