Portland Police Department's first female officer has decided to retire.
Thursday night, supporters came out to honor Lieutenant Deanira Gonzalez for her 30-plus years of service at the Community Center. Gonzalez started out as a patrol officer back in 1983. Her most memorable moment as an officer was her first night on the job.
"We had a pursuit. We walked into a home and they had some caged tigers in there," said Gonzalez. "We had an accident. It was like, here... go and get it done. I went home in awe. It was a lot of fun."
Law Enforcement officials from around the state were on hand. Gonzalez even received an award from the Secret Service.
