Anglers On Wheels Fishing Tournament for the Disabled Wraps Up
PORT ARANSAS (Kiii News) -
Close to 300 disabled individuals participated in a two-day fishing tournament called Anglers On Wheels in Port Aransas.
The event offers cash prizes to the luckiest fishermen, and following Friday morning's fishing, some of the contestants met at the Robert's Point Park Pavilion for a fish fry.
"We always come down here because the Island Queen 2 is wheelchair accessible, and it's just a wonderful experience," said Barbara Blair, director of the Door in the Wall Program. "They get to go fishing and people who never thought they'd get to again get to do it."
The event is conducted every year by the Door in the Wall program based in San Antonio, and organized to sponsor and develop sporting and social events for the disabled. The tournament wraps up Friday night with a barbeque for the participants and their families.
