CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - Several South Texas high school teams opened district play on Friday night, including District 31-4A pre-season favorites Alice and Flour Bluff. The Coyotes and Hornets went toe-to-toe in a blockbuster. The two teams combined for 4 plays of 50 yards or more as Alice rallied to score 2 late touchdowns, but missed a try at a game-winning two point conversion in the final minute of play. Flour Bluff hung on for a 27-26 win.

The District 30-4A opener between unbeaten Port Lavaca and unbeaten Calallen was anything but suspenseful. The Wildcats scored 41 first-half point in a shocking 48-0 blowout of Port Lavaca as Calallen makes a big statement on their home turf.

Gregory-Portland kept pace with Calallen as the G-P Wildcats powered their way to a 27-9 win over Beeville. Devin Bisby rambled for another 200+ yards in pacing the Gregory-Portland attack in the second half of their District 304A opener.
