Kid with Cerebral Palsy Scores Touchdown, Wins the Hearts of Fans
HEBBRONVILLE (Kiii News) -
It's an inspirational story about sportsmanship and how two teams came together to help a 9 year old little boy play the game of football. 9 year old Michael Ruiz is #42 with the Longhorns from Hebbronville who made his way across the field in a video posted to our 3 News facebook page.
His teammates were by his side the whole way as Michael carried the ball to the end zone and scored a touchdown. Michael was born with cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound, but his father says the other players with the Longhorns just treat him as Michael, one of their teammates.
The kids they were playing against, the Bishop Badgers also helped make this a memorable moment for Michael's family.
Juan Ruiz, Michael's father told 3 News, "I'm just happy these kids treat him equally. It's all I wanted from the beginning, for him to be one of the team and for other people not to see him any different."
Of course Michael's biggest fans are his parents. They say this is not the only activity Michael is involved in. He also plays baseball and shows livestock.
