Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson formally announced Monday the creation of a new mounted patrol unit.
It's an effort to reduce crime in places where police cruisers and even cops on bicycles cannot go.
For now, there will only be two officers on that patrol, but they and their horses successfully completed seven weeks of intense mounted patrol training up in the Dallas area. Some of that training involved intensive heat and even large crowds. The animals and their riders have to perform well in all those situations.
