Truck Driver Involved in Head-On Crash With A Local School Bus Is Not Insured

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A truck driver involved in an accident with a Bruceville-Eddy school bus last month does not have insurance.

The dump truck collided with the school bus on September 16 that injured 15 students and 2 staff members. The driver of the truck is also the owner of Second Stop Transport with his wife.

Investigators said the driver of the dump truck was traveling southbound on the Interstate 35 access road when he may have fell asleep at the wheel, crossed into the other lane and hit the bus head-on.

Bruceville-Eddy ISD Superintendent Richard Kilgore released this statement following the recent discovery.

"Bruceville-Eddy ISD has had an opportunity to review the police report concerning the truck that crashed into one of our school buses on September 16th. We are very disappointed to learn that the driver at fault was uninsured. We understand that the I-35 construction project will be in our community for the next several years, and we certainly hope we can trust that those in charge of it will ensure that all drivers meet state financial responsibility requirements and are qualified to be behind the wheel because the safety of our students and employees depends on it. We are thankful that the injuries to our bus driver, aide and bus riders were not any more severe than they were and, we want to express our gratitude to the community for their continued support during this time."
