City workers are opening one of three closed intersections along Chaparral Street Monday. The street has been closed all summer for construction.
The City had hoped to open the roads where Chaparral Street intersects William, Lawrence and Schatzell, but that has been delayed. Instead, only the William Street intersection has been opened.
"We've gotten a little more weather than we're used to, so that kind of delayed that a little bit. The William intersection is ready to open now," City Engineer Dan Biles said. "There's still some work to do behind the curb, but they'll be doing that over the next few weeks. So the plan is to have them open that intersection today. The full street won't be open, but that intersection will be open."
Biles said all three intersections should be open in the next week or so, adding that the City hopes to open the entire street once all three intersections are completed, which could be a couple more weeks.
According to the City engineer, Chaparral will eventually be turned into a two-way street, but preparations for that could take several more months.
