Funding Approved to Fix Drainage Systems on McArdle Road
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
City Council approved Tuesday funding of additional waste water and storm water work to be done during reconstruction of McArdle Road.
The McArdle Road project was approved as part of a Bond 2012 project. The work will go from Whitaker Drive all the way to Ennis Joslin.
City officials said increased road and pedestrian traffic, along with a lack of sidewalks and drainage, prompted the need for a makeover of McArdle. It was also the section of road where, back in February of 2012, 24-year old Kimberly Encinia was killed when she was struck by a vehicle as she walked along the side of the road.
The hope is that the new changes to McArdle will provide a safer journey for both drivers and pedestrians.
"So going forward, it's going to be a three-lane section with sidewalks, so it's a significantly safer section for all the pedestrians that are out there right now," City Engineer Dan Biles said.
The project is expected to be complete by October of 2015.
