Council Approves Increased Funding for Upcoming Elections
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
City Council approved Tuesday an increase in the cost of the upcoming Nov. 5 elections, when voters will decide the fate of Destination Bayfront and some state constitutional amendments.
The City's cost for the referendum had been $200,000, but another $169,000 has been added to that by the County Elections Office.
"What the county has told us is that, because of the new voter ID law going into effect, they need to spend more money training the election workers this year, and they've also raised the cost of renting the voting machines," Councilman David Loeb said.
The county memo did predict a lower cost for elections in the future.
