NAS-Kingsville Trains Responding to Simulated Crash Scenario

Posted: Updated:
KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

If a plane were to crash at Naval Air Station-Kingsville, would the they be prepared to respond? That's what they were practicing for Thursday.

Base officials called it an aircraft mishap exercise, a scheduled training exercise designed to test command and community first responders in a simulated crash scenario.

In addition to base-wide commands, participants included the Kingsville Fire Department and HALO Flight Air Emergency Services.

The exercise is based on a situation in which an aircraft crashes and the pilot is ejected into the brush.

"Training is obviously the key to everything, especially in the way that the military's running right now," Installation Training Officer James Lawrence said. "The way to mitigate a lot of shortfalls is through training."

The exercise was conducted on the south field portion of NAS-Kingsville.
