"Roar By The Shore" 2013 BikeFest Draws Thousands to Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Roughly 15,000 bikers were expected to roar into town this weekend. Organizers of BikeFest's "Roar By The Shore" say they are pleased with the turnout.
This is the first year the event was hosted in Corpus Christi, previously it was held on South Padre Island.
Vendors setup shop at the American Bank Center. A parade was held Saturday traveling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and making its way downtown.
The extreme midget wrestling federation put on a show for spectators.
Organizers say bikers came in from all over the Texas and even other states.
Henry Mendiola, BikeFest Staff, says,"This is our twentieth anniversary and we celebrated here in Corpus Christi and this is now home you are going to be seeing more and more bikers coming to corpus Christi from here on out."
He also says money raised from the festivities benefits area non-profits.
Officials with the Convention and Visitors Bureau estimate at least 5,000 hotel rooms were booked this weekend.
