South Texas lawmakers were the guests of honor Tuesday night at a special appreciation reception on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
As a result of the 83rd legislative session, which ended in May, TAMUCC received additional funding for education programs, financial aid and engineering research, so they held Tuesday night's reception as a way to say thank you.
"Texas A&M Corpus Christi is on the rise," State Rep. Todd Hunter said. "We call it the Island University. It is increasing in student population. It is increasing in faculty. The entire area is expanding, and this is a great place for all the new industry that's coming in."
Hunter says lawmakers also passed legislation to increase funding for the University's business innovation center.
