GOLIAD, TX (Kiii News) - Former Houston Oilers Coach Bum Phillips passed away Friday at his ranch in Goliad surrounded by family members, including his son Wade Phillips.

Phillips was 90 years old, and gave one of his last interviews about a week and a half ago with Kiii News Reporter Michael Gibson, talking about the great life and career he had, and of course reminiscing about the Luv Ya Blue Days.

One of the most colorful coaches in NFL history, and certainly one of the highest profile coaches in Texas history, Phillips has been fighting off illness for some time, and had fallen and bumped his head a couple of times. Former players and coaches, including Oilers tight end Mike Barber and Oilers center Carl Mauck, have been checking in on him at his ranch in Goliad.

Recently, Phillips has been working to raise funds to build a special retreat for the deaf on his ranch in Goliad.
