Travelers flying into Corpus Christi International Airport are speaking out after they were stuck on a plane for more than an hour on the tarmac. Passengers said the pilot was unable to get a hold of airport personnel.
One passenger told 3 News, "we sat on the plane an hour and twenty minutes." Another frustrated passenger said, "there were open gates. It's not like planes were at every gate where we could have gone to one and unloaded." A third passenger said, "the pilot couldn't even get anyone to answer him on his radio or his phone."
We caught up with these passengers who were on board a charter plane that came in from Mississippi Sunday night. The passengers patiently waited for over an hour to de-plane. This, as they watched other flights which landed after them, and were able to pull up to a gate. So why did they have to wait so long? American Eagle is responsible for managing those flights.
Airport officials say there were four planes on the ground, as a result of two of those flights arriving late, causing the backup. Passengers say they had to wait another hour for their baggage.
Airport Spokesperson, Kim Bridger said, "the airlines do the best they can. There are times when circumstances arise where it ends up being more work then they can get done."
