Nueces County On Track to Set Early Voting Turnout Record

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Destination Bayfront seems to be the driving force that has voters turning out to the polls in droves as we enter day three of early voting for this year's Nov. 5 election.

On Monday, the first day of early voting, 1,015 people cast their ballot, followed by just over 1,400 on Tuesday. On Wednesday, just before the polls closed, there were more than 1,200 people who showed up to vote.

The $45 million bond would turn the area where the old Memorial Coliseum used to be into a park and tourist attraction along Shoreline Boulevard.

Nueces County Clerk Diana Barrera said we are on track to setting a record number for early voting turnout for a non-candidate election -- better than the 2011 election.

"We're ranked, as far as I can see at the state's populous counties, we're ranked number one in turnout across the state for the top 15 counties," Barrera said.

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
