Large Turnout for this Weekend's Women in Policing Seminar
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The Corpus Christi Police Department is in need of new recruits, and according to the department, a large number of women are stepping up to fill that void.
"You want to have a police force that is reflective of your community," CCPD Commander Adele Heidi Frese said. "Obviously, we have half women pretty much on the planet. 50-percent of our population on the planet is women, but yet most police departments have 10- to 15-percent women represented in their departments. So it's very important that we have that type of diversity."
Right now, the CCPD has about 12-percent women on the force, but that number could soon increase. According to the department, a large number of women turned up for a Women in Policing seminar held this weekend. It was a way for those curious about joining the force to get questions answered.
