New Local Organization Aims to Fight Underage Drinking

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A brand new organization in the area is bringing officials from both Nueces and San Patricio counties together in hopes of curbing underage drinking.

"We're bringing people from all over the community to try to decrease the underage drinking," said Donine Schwartz of the Youth Continuum of Care Coalition. "We have too many people out there on the roads drinking. They are binge drinking, and we are trying to decrease this."

The Youth Continuum of Care Coalition recently received a state grant to get off the ground, and on Tuesday, they met with local community leaders, including officials with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Eventually, the group plans on creating outreach programs targeting teens.
