CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

James Ragan, founder of the Triumph Over Kid Cancer organization, donated a $30,000 check to Driscoll Children's Hospital Thursday.

The presentation was the result of fundraising that the organization had done over the past year. Triumph Over Kid Cancer put on a golf tournament back in May, which raised thousands of dollars.

Ragan was diagnosed in 2006 with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. He said that about 1,000 kids are diagnosed with the rare form of cancer each year, but not much funding goes toward it. That's why he raises money for it throughout the year.

"To give back to a place that's done so much for me," Ragan said. "This is the first time I've been in here in a long time, where I'm actually coming in here to do something good, and I'm not running in here sick, so it's a privilege."

"This is really very special," said Cris Johnson, medical director of the Cancer and Blood Disorder Center. "James and his whole family have been very supportive and are just a real testament to the kinds of kindhearted people who can really make a difference in the world."

Hospital officials said that many people will now be able to benefit from the funds Ragan donated in order to get the care they need.
