Del Mar College Hosts Reading of Names of Fallen Veterans

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Del Mar College took part in the national Veterans Day observance, reading their portion of the names of 1.2 million fallen veterans representing those lost in foreign wars.

Students and faculty spend time reading the names of 1,000 fallen veterans at the Harvin Student Center.

Veterans attending the reading of the fallen said the observance meant a lot to them.

"I've known a lot of people that are veterans that passed away," student and veteran Robert Middleton said. "Some that have been in the service, active duty. So something like this, where the people come together and show their thanks, their heartfelt love, it's really nice. It's really good."

"I just came back from Operation Enduring Freedom," student and veteran Maria Garza said. "It's not easy."

The ceremony included a performance of the National Anthem and a tribute to Old Glory by students and faculty with the college's music department.

The reading was one of hundreds of readings at colleges across the nation paying tribute to those who have fallen in the line of duty.
