Veterans Living at Mirador Retirement Community Honored

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Mirador retirement community is home to dozens of veterans, all of whom were honored Monday with a special ceremony featuring the Kaffie Middle School band.

Among the residents is 92-year old WWII veteran Frank Nance. He served an illustrious 22-year career in the military.

After WWII, he worked in the basement of the Pentagon during the Bay of Pigs and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He even played a crucial part in communicating with the White House on the whereabouts of the president after Kennedy was shot.

"When President Kennedy was shot, the White House called over and wanted to know where the body was," Nance said. "They didn't know it was on the airplane coming back."

Another resident, U.S. Navy veteran Jack Prentiss, served during a time when bibles were issued to the military. He still has his Bible, and says some soldiers carried their Bibles at all times. He said he wishes Bibles were still issued.

"Very definitely, a separation, and I can't say we're better for it," Prentiss said. "It's something, I guess, that had to be done."

Prentiss, who is a healthy 88 years old, said he has had his Bible since he enlisted in the military back when he was 18 years old, some 70 years ago and counting.
