Groundbreaking for the Palms at Leopard Residential Complex

Posted: Updated:

Corpus Christi leaders along with northside residents broke ground Thursday for a new 120-unit residential complex called the Palms at Leopard.

It's the area's first new construction project in decades. The complex will replace the aging Northside Manor apartments, and city officials said it will bring 120 families closer to public schools and retail shopping locations.

"That's a lot of folks. That will be an economic boom," Neighborhood Services Director Eddie Ortega said. "Hopefully it will be a catalyst for this area."

"It's just a new hope for us and blessing," area resident Amanda Castro said. "It's just going to mean a whole new life for us."

San Antonio-based Housing and Community Services will own and operate the building. It is expected to be completed by December of next year.
