CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Kiii-TV is proud to be a part of the second annual Coastal Bend Blood Center Run For Blood 5K Run/Walk starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Heritage Park.

Last year, the event had 574 registered participants and raised over $45,000 in fund and in-kind donations for the Coastal Bend Blood Center.

The Coastal Bend Blood Center, established in 1969, is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) community service organization committed to unifying, centralizing and consolidating blood donor services in the Coastal Bend. These services include donor recruiting, community education, drawing, processing and distribution.

An effective and efficient organization, more than 90-percent of the Blood Center's annual expenditures go directly to program services to benefit the community. The Blood Center supplies blood and blood products to 13 medical facilities across 10 counties, and collects over 33,000 units of blood annually for the hospitals and patients of the Coastal Bend.
