Alice Business Owner Falls Victim to Purse Thieves

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

Two thieves got away with more than $2,000 in cash and most of an Alice business owner's personal belonging after breaking into her car using her own keys.

It all happened earlier this week outside of the Blings N Things store in the 100 block of E. 3rd Street in Alice.

The two suspects, a man and a woman, walked into the store. While the woman distracted the clerk, the man found the keys to the business owner's sport utility vehicle on the store counter, opened the vehicle from inside of the store, and then went outside and took her purse, which was inside of the SUV. The suspects left shortly after.

When store owner Ana Cadena went outside, she saw that her coin purse was hanging out of her SUV. That was when she knew they had taken her purse, which contained the $2,000 -- her rent and wages for her employees.

They also got away with her Louis Vuitton purse, which is worth $1,700.

"It hurts because we work very hard," Cadena said. "When I talked to my mother-in-law about this, she said that 'My husband Pete and I are going to give you $1,000 to cover the girls' wages.' I was touched and very blessed with that."

Cadena said that Alice police have their eyes on the suspects, and that they have targeted other businesses in town. If you have any information regarding this crime, please call the Alice Police Department at 361-664-0186.
