More Seeking Help from Salvation Army Due to Cold Weather

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The local Salvation Army facility has seen an uptick in the amount of homeless people coming in with few warm clothes on their back since Tuesday's cold front blew in.

Those running the shelter say they are in need of extra supplies and monetary donations as they brace for more cold weather that is expected to come next week. Currently, the shelter has more than twice the amount of people they regularly help.

"On a normal night, we have maybe 35 individuals," said Valentine Garcia of the Salvation Army. "Right now that it's cold, we have helped 60 to 80 individuals."

"I thank God for the Salvation Army," said Eddie, who has received help from the shelter. "I mean, the staff has helped me out enormously, and God bless them."

If you would like to donate or volunteer at the Salvation Army, you can stop by their facility at 501 Josephine Street, call them at 361-884-9498, or visit them online at www.salvationarmy.org.
