Rehabilitated Hawks Released by Texas State Aquarium

A couple of rehabilitated hawks were released back into the wild Thursday at the Texas State Aquarium's Sealab facility.

A sharp-shinned hawk was brought to the Aquarium's wildlife hospital earlier this month after it was found in a garden in Portland with an injury to its wing. The other hawk, a red tailed hawk, arrived at the hospital in January with a virus and an injury to the wing.

"There's only very few wildlife rehab centers here in the Coastal Bend, so it's really adamant that we have a facility here to help," Aquarium Wildlife Specialist Kelly Shutt said.

It took a few seconds for one of the Hawks to realize what was going on, but it eventually heard the call of the wild and took flight.
