Alice City Leaders Fire City Manager

Posted: Updated:
ALICE (Kiii News) -

The Alice City Council Chambers were packed to overflowing to hear the outcome of whether or not the council would fire the city manager. The meeting began with residents who spoke both in support of Ray De Los Santos and those who weren't happy with his work.

"We are not satisfied with actions that have been taken by him," said Alice resident, Judy Capor.

"As you chart the course for our city's future relying on the strong and capable team which has been and should continue to be captained by Mr. Ray De Los Santos,"said Michael Day, Alice resident.

The agenda item had been submitted by Council Member Frank Hinojosa who refused to answer when we asked why he wanted the city manager out of office. After almost two hours in executive session, Alice city council members made a motion.

"I'd like to make a motion to terminate the employment, immediately of the City Manager, Ray De Los Santos, Jr.," said Councilman Frank Hinojosa.

"Mayor, I'd like to second that motion. Councilwoman Yvette Johnson seconds that motion."

With that, councilmembers ended the five year employment of it's city manager. The reasons were only discussed in executive session and were not disclosed in the public council meeting. We asked De Los Santos his feelings after the decision was announced.

"Here in Alice over the last five years, we have a great proven track record of success," said Ray De Los Santos. "I wish Alice, team Alice, and everyone here nothing but the best."

one audience member says she was disappointed in the proceedings.

"I believe the council has made a serious mistake, you know, terminate a person for personal grievances that may or may not have even been aired between people," said resident Kathleen Kasper.

The firing was immediate and there was no indication when the council would replace the fired city manager.
