Officials Urge Conservation as City Remains in Stage 1 Restrictions

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Since Monday, the City of Corpus Christi has been under Stage 1 water restrictions, and that means voluntary water conservation is in place.

Officials say conservation is still key while in Stage 1.

Customers are asked to voluntarily limit landscape watering to once a week, only on your trash pick-up day. The year-round prohibition on watering between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. is still in place.

The City downgraded from Stage 2 to Stage 1 water restrictions because combined lake levels were higher than 50-percent for at least 15 consecutive days.

"We determine our drought triggers based on the combined levels of Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi, and because Choke Canyon is at 35-percent, we have a combined capacity of 52-percent," said Brent Clayton of the City's Water Department.

The City's Water Department hands out free water-saving devices, such as special shower heads that conserve water. Call them at 361-826-1600 if you have any questions about drought conditions, or if you want to get your hands on some of their water saving devices.
