Police Identify Burglary Suspect Who Was Shot, Killed by Homeowner

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Detectives have identified the man who was shot and killed after allegedly breaking into a Country Club home Monday as 29-year old Dustin James Tate.

Tate died Monday night from injuries he sustained in the shooting at the home of Fox Nursery owner Dan Caballero, in the 5300 block of Greenbriar. He allegedly broke into the home through the backdoor, and was shot by a homeowner.

According to police, detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide, while continuing their investigation into the residential burglary. Once complete, their findings will be presented to the Nueces County District Attorney's Office.

Tate has a criminal record including drug charges, theft and other burglaries.
