CCISD to Investigate Assault of Driscoll Middle School Student

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A disturbing video that surfaced on Facebook Monday, showing a 13-year old student being beaten by another student, will be investigated by the school district.

The victim's mother said that her daughter suffered serious head injuries from the attack, which she says took place after an older girl and her friend tried to provoke a fight on the school bus on the way home from Driscoll Middle School.

When the victim refused to fight with them, the two older students followed her home from the bus stop, to the Lantana Square Apartments on Academy, and assaulted her inside the apartment.

The Corpus Christi Independent School District has now said they will be involved in an investigation into the incident.

The victim's mother said she visited with CCISD administrators Tuesday and is looking to arrange a safety transfer for her daughter, in addition to filing a complaint. She said she also wants to know why the bus driver failed to report what was happening.

"In this particular instance, the bus driver was unaware that any kind of altercation was taking place," said Lorette Williams, director of communications for the CCISD. "He did note that two of his students got off at the wrong bus stop, or not their usual bus stop, but there was about 10-12 kids getting off that bus stop at the same time. He did write a referral for them getting off the wrong bus stop."

The video of the assault was only on Facebook for a short time, but has since been removed.
