CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Corpus Christi detectives said Wednesday that the man who was shot and killed while burglarizing a home in the Country Club Estates neighborhood acted alone.

Dustin Tate, 29, was shot Monday during an attempted burglary at the home of local businessman Dan Caballero, on Greenbriar and St. Andrews on the southside of town. He was taken the Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have since ruled out the possibility of there being a second suspect involved in the crime. As for the shooting, it is still being investigated as a homicide, alongside the initial investigation into the attempted burglary.

Because of the recent shootings -- one on Lariat Lane and the latest in Country Club Estates -- Corpus Christi Police Department Chief Floyd Simpson hosted a town hall meeting at the Corpus Christi Country Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, inviting residents to join.

"There's two on the southside that have occurred within one week of each other. Citizens and residents of Corpus Christi, they start to become alarmed. 'Am I going to be the next victim?' 'Why is it happening in my neighborhood?'" CCPD Captain Mike Alanis said. "We reached out to individuals around Lariat Lane. We reached out to individuals near Greenbriar, in that area."

Chief Simpson plans to address concerns over break-ins and shootings.
