CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Two people were hospitalized after being involved in a rollover accident on Highway 44 just before 11 a.m. Thursday, near the Corpus Christi International Airport.

According to police, a Ford Explorer and a white Dodge pickup were both traveling eastbound on Highway 44 when the Explorer came up behind the pickup at high speed and clipped the vehicle, causing the Explorer to rollover.

The two occupants in the Ford Explorer, a man and a woman, were both transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.

"The driver did appear to have a head injury," said Lt. James Garrett of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "The occupants of the other vehicle were okay and they were going to transport themselves to get medical attention."

Emergency crews had to shut down eastbound Highway 44 at Clarkwood as investigators cleared the scene.
