Abandoned House Fire Investigation

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

An investigation is underway into house fire that broke out just before noon today. The fire put up lots of smoke. It happened at Lipan and Mexico Street near the Salvation Army. Firefighters were able to put the flames out within 20 minutes. The house was boarded up and no one was living there at the time, which has investigators looking into the possibility it was sparked by a transient looking for a warm place to stay.

Battalion Chief Kenneth Erben said, "we can make an assumption with it being cold weather, being an abandoned structure with no utility just only that. We have an investigator on scene."

One firefighter was hurt, but his injuries are said to be minor.
