CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Texas State Aquarium gave out an early Christmas present to its visitors Sunday. Several families took advantage of dollar day at the aquarium. Families got to enjoy several types of aquatic life native to Texas. Several people who entered received a free Santa hat for their visit. With this blast of Arctic Temperatures, staff at the aquarium had to make special arrangements to assure all of their aquatic life was kept safe.

Richard Glover with the Texas State Aquarium said, "when the temperature dipped as low as it did last night we have to cover some of the outdoor exhibits and move of some of the animals inside."

Trainers say only the sting-rays, sharks, and turtles were affected by the cold weather. The dolphins on the other hand, enjoy a temperature controlled tank to play in year round.
