Two Local Businessmen Appointed to Corpus Christi Port Commission

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Council appointed two local businessmen to fill open seats on the Corpus Christi Port Commission.

David Engle will assume the seat now held by Port Chairman Mike Carrel. Carrel's term ends Jan. 1. Rick Valls, who operates an international shipping company, will replace Commissioner Bob Kostelnik, who is retiring for personal reasons on Dec. 31.

Councilman Mark Scott said the two men are joining the policy-making board at the beginning of one of the biggest economic booms in its history.

"David Engle's got a long history with this community, has led a number of community growth initiatives and with a very successful business background," Councilman Mark Scott said. "Rick Valls comes from a shipping family. That family has worked at ports all over the world and brings that expertise to the table."

Engle was appointed to a three-year term, and Valls will serve the remaining two years of Kostelnik's term. A total of 12 people had applied for seats on that prestigious panel.
