Sinton Defense Preparing for Fairfield in State Semis

SINTON (Kiii Sports) - The Sinton Pirates know they have a tall task ahead of them in the 3A-II State Semifinals, and they're alright with embracing the underdog role.

The Pirates will be going up against an undefeated Fairfield team that hasn't scored less then 42 points all year, with that coming this past week in a 42-7 win over Rockdale. Pirates' Head Coach Tom Allen says shutting down, or least somewhat containing running back Larry Rose will be key. Rose had 141 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in that quarterfinals win.

The offensive line has been the key for the Pirates offensively, with Sinton running wild over its playoff opponents. Sinton will likely need that production again, especially from the likes of quarterback Tyler Handson to win the time of possession battle against the Eagles.

Sinton is making its fifth ever appearance in the state semifinals, yet first since 2001. Fairfield has never been this far before this season. Kickoff of the 3A-II State Semifinals is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Katy I.S.D.'s Rhodes Stadium.
