CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A late night meal turned into a frightening ordeal for customers at a local Whataburger restaurant after a gunman wearing a mask walked in and demanded cash.

It happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Whataburger in the 4100 block of Staples, near Gollihar. The suspect is still on the loose.

"The employees/victims indicate that a male wearing a mask and a hood ran from the business eastbound," said Lt. James Gray of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Like we said, we got here pretty quick. We set up a perimeter. We had canines. We were unable to locate anyone at this point."

Fortunately no one was injured. Employees told police that the suspect got away with cash, and witnesses said the suspect ran off to a nearby apartment complex located in the 800 block of Berry Street.

Right now, police are hoping you can help them crack the case.

"We are very opened to tips. If anybody knows anything, please call Crime Stoppers. They will give you a reward," Lt. Gray said. "This is an aggravated felony. This is a various heinous crime. So anybody that knows anything about this, we encourage them to call the police department."

Detectives are currently looking through surveillance video in hopes of finding clues as to the person's identity. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
