CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A man accused of sucker punching another man around this time last year, leaving the victim with severe brain injuries, was back in court on Thursday.

Victor Perez, accused of assaulting Erik Schwirtlich in December of 2012 in a knockout punch that was caught on video downtown, had his trial postponed by a judge because his attorney is awaiting evidence from the prosecution.

It the surveillance footage from last year, the victim is seen bumping into Perez while talking on his phone. The two confront each other just before Perez knocks the victim out cold.

3News tried to talk to Perez as he left the courtroom Thursday, but he had nothing to say. He is currently free on a $50,000 bond.
