More Businesses Moving to Parkdale Shopping Center

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The Parkdale Shopping Center continues to grow and expand, and those who live in that neighborhood say they couldn't be happier.

A new Panda Express is set to open soon in that shopping center, as well as a Melrose clothing store. In fact, the Prosperity Bank located in the shopping center across the street also plans to relocate to the Parkdale Shopping Center.

The shopping center sits in front of the Super Wal-Mart at Staples and Carmel Parkway, the anchor store that has helped attract all of the other businesses to that area.

"I think it's great. I think the whole expansion is great," resident David Lewis said. "We live right behind here, so I mean, we shop at Wal-Mart and everything is within shopping distance and it's great."

"It's a great change. It looks really nice. I wish they had some regulations, whatever the city calls them, for those people who buy the buildings downtown and don't keep them up," resident Sylvia Quintero said. "There should be some sort of deal that says, you buy it, you have to do something with it. If you don't, sell it. Maintain it where it doesn't look like what this used to look like."

The head of the City's Economic Development Office said a company called Biz Match actually has been helping national companies find local investors to become franchise owners, and that is how a number of these businesses have ended up coming to town.
