Fire Fighters Continue to Battle Stubborn Island Fire into the Night

Posted: Updated:

Corpus Christi Fire Fighters along with several other agencies continued to battle a stubborn grass fire on Padre Island into the night. Officials say it was started by a truck that was trespassing near the Laguna Madre. The fire broke out just before two Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Commodores and Park Road 22 out on the island.

According to police, the fire started after a man, driving in a truck, went past a no trespassing sign and onto some grass, sparking the blaze.

Stopping the fire was the primary concern for the fire crews that were out there, however, fire fighters where notified that the man's truck had gotten stuck and also caught on fire. What made matters more dangerous , is that there was a loaded .45 caliber handgun inside.

Police say the driver of the truck was let go,but may face charges for starting that fire.
