Attic Fire Forces Family Out of Home

Posted: Updated:

Fire crews are investigating the cause of a house fire on the South side of Corpus Christi. The blaze broke out in an attic at a home on Royal Court and Downing just before 1AM Tuesday.

Investigators say the family of four noticed the flames from the roof and called emergency crews. Captain James Brown says most of the damage was contained to the attic area.

"There were also Christmas presents inside. So good thing the fire didn't extend past the attic. We were able to make a good stop," says Captain Brown.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the fire. The Coastal Bend Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping out with housing because there is a large hole in the roof. Detectives say the fire might have started in the fireplace.
