Accused Murderer Eusebio DeLeon On The Run

Posted: Updated:

He was set to stand trial next month, but a Brooks County man accused of murdering his estranged wife, Erika Cantu, is said to be on the run.

Authorities are searching for, Eusebio DeLeon, 41, who somehow managed to remove his ankle monitor.

Where is accused murder Eusebio DeLeon? That's the question that has authorities in Brooks County scrambling for answers and a father filled with concerns.

"There's really no one to blame, except the people that let him out on bond. You know because he should have never been released and so they should be held accountable," says Erika Cantu's father Pedro Cantu.

DeLeon was released from jail back in October after posting a $500,000 bond.  The 41-year old is accused of striking 34-year old Erika DeLeon on the head with a dumbbell, wrapping an ironing cord around her neck and killing her in March 2012.  He then fled to Ann Arbor, MI where he was later arrested.

"He's already left to Michigan, what's gonna keep him from not leaving again?" said Pedro Cantu back in October in an interview with the victim's father following DeLeon's release from jail. Today, those fears are now a reality for the family of Erika Cantu.

"He's not afraid of anything and he'll try anything," says Erika's mother, Debra Cantu. "It's very, very upsetting because we all said that he was gonna run eventually, it was just a matter of time, and sure enough, you know he waited until everybody wasn't I guess paying attention to him, and he did what I knew he was thinking it in his mind," said Debra Cantu.

An arrest warrant has been issued to send DeLeon back to jail. Police say DeLeon might be riding on a 2001 Maroon Honda motorcycle. If you spot him, you are urged to call authorities.
