City Officials Seeking New Youth Sports Complex

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

At City Hall, city staff is looking into the possibility of a youth sports complex being built off SH-286 near Bay Area Fellowship.

The 50 acre lot, alongside the city dump, would be used for soccer, baseball, football, softball fields and possibly more.

Assistant City Manager Wes Pierson told council that youth sports could be a big tourist draw for the city.

"The Corpus Christi CVB is looking to capture a larger portion of the youth sports market in Texas. And Corpus Christi's an ideal location for that but really we don't have the facilities to accommodate those in place right now," said Pierson.

Pierson says with council's approval, he hopes to solicit requests for proposals sometime in the Spring of 2014.
