TAMUCC Student Graduates While Working in Afghanistan

Posted: Updated:

Many college students work while going to school, but not many attempt college while in a war zone; but that's what one Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student has done.

Teresa Smithson just finished her geospatial surveying engineering master's degree, all while working at the Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan.

"It's really hard to find online programs that address the needs of a land surveyor, and TAMUCC happened to have one, and it looked good," Smithson said.

Smithson is a civilian contractor doing land surveying in parts of southern and western Afghanistan. She is also a grandmother of four.
