CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

225 local children were all smiles on Friday after receiving a brand new bicycle for Christmas, courtesy of the Bikes for Kids program.

The program is sponsored by Bay Area Bicycles and Malkan Broadcasting Co. Boys and girls ages 2-10 years old, who are unlikely to get new bikes for Christmas, were nominated by Child Protective Services, friends and family members to receive the new bikes, along with a helmet specially fit for them.

Altogether, the bikes are worth over $60,000.

"You can see the smiling faces out here on the parents, the volunteers and the kids," said Tom Neagli, owner of Bay Area Bicycles. "It's great to see the kids. I'm in the middle of Merry Christmas right now."

The money was raised throughout the year with various runs like the Stache Dash 5K and the Turkey Trot, along with other fundraising events.
