Christmas Decorations Bring Community Joy

Posted: Updated:

From the rows upon rows of homes on Candy Cane Lane brightly lit up to a life size live nativity scene. Corpus Christi has some elaborate Christmas displays.

But with those extravagant decorations comes hard work and long hours of preparations. To some home owners the effort that goes into those displays is overrided by the joy they get from the reactions of those that visit.

Elmer Fleenor on Rooney Drive put up 20,000 strands of lights all choreographed to music. On top of the elaborate lay out, he dresses has Santa every night in December to greet children.

Pat and Ray Bocanegra have recreated this nativity scene with live doves in front of their home on Willowbrook Drive for the past fifteen years.

They say they wanted to do the manger scene to remind people the reason why we have Christmas. Bocanegra says they welcome anybody to come enjoy it, which has become more of community gathering during the holiday rather than just people speculating.
