Slick Roads Cause Multiple Rollover Accidents on Hwy 44

Posted: Updated:

Slick road conditions caused a number of different accidents on roads in Corpus Christi Thursday, including at least two rollover accidents on Highway 44.

This first one happened around noon along Highway 44 near the Corpus Christi International Airport. Police said the driver of a maroon Ford lost control and flipped his truck. He was not injured and did not get a ticket.

Then, about an hour later, there was an accident on Highway 44 near NPID. The driver, a man in his 20s, had to be cut out of his truck and was taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay.

"In this condition, it's not quite raining," said Senior Officer Olga Flores of the Corpus Christi Police Department's Traffic Division. "When it's just a sprinkling drizzle, the oil and water mixes, staying on the road. Not going to wash off because it's not raining. This is even worse than if it would be raining."

In light of the accident and our slick roads, CCPD would like to remind everyone that the speed limit is the top speed you should go in ideal road conditions. Conditions such as those on Thursday are less than ideal.
